When his son needed a bike to ride the circuits of South Carolina, Gary Turner built one himself! It was 1972, and that was his first BMX — the first of a long series. Indeed, Turner continued to create bikes, leading to the founding of GT Bicycles in 1979. In a short space of time, the frames offered by the brand — innovative and reliable — established themselves in the BMX world and went on to become iconic.
In 1986, Gary Turner made his mark in Mountain Biking by signing a legend: Hans Rey! Shortly afterwards, GT mountain bikes appeared and caused quite a stir, particularly those fitted with the now-famous 'Triple Triangle'. Hot on their heels, big names such as Nicolas Vouilloz, six-time Downhill World Champion, and Julianna Furtado, Cross-Country World Champion, associated themselves with the growing brand to establish it definitively.
Since then, whatever the disciplines, the company has always maintained a very close link between research, the professional world and production models. It is common for the athletes' bikes to subsequently be offered in a consumer version.
With the same determination, GT Bicycles continues to develop its road bikes today, without abandoning what makes its strength: innovation.
Armed with its determination to innovate, GT continues to push the world of cycling forward, and Probikeshop wants nothing less than to offer you such a brand!
GT BICYCLES is one of the biggest names in BMX, with a hyperactive research unit. It is indeed one of the few to develop a carbon bike! I currently race on the Speed Series XXXL — this frame is excellent, very stiff, and I love its design. When I started riding it, it was a pro model; now everyone can get their hands on one. That's the great strength of GT!
