The GIRO brand was born in 1985, the brainchild of Jim Gentes, a designer with a passion for road cycling. It all began in his garage, where, with the help of friends working at NASA, he developed one of the first lightweight, ventilated polystyrene helmets with a real design!
GIRO helmets soon became popular with racers, who replaced their old bladders with these new, more aesthetically pleasing models. This rapid success was crowned in 1989 by Greg LeMond's legendary victory in the Tour de France - by a mere 9 seconds - with a GIRO helmet on his head. In the 1990s, the company became part of the Bellsports group, which also includes Bell, the other pioneer of expanded polystyrene helmets! Here, the company maintains its high-end positioning and its commitment to innovation.
From the outset, the brand has sought to offer enthusiastic cyclists, those who compete and for whom high-performance protection is essential, cutting-edge products, both visually and technically. Giro has also developed its know-how in the world of skiing and snowboarding, where safety is not a luxury and the quality of protection is paramount... and looks too!
GIRO is one of the leading brands on the professional and amateur pelotons, and Probikeshop couldn't resist including it in its catalog... You're either a fan or you're not!
When I changed my helmet, I wanted something with quality and comfort. I opted for the GIRO Xar MTB helmet, and it was the right choice! It's lightweight, with a great design and effective ventilation. You forget you're wearing it, which doesn't mean it won't protect me in the event of a nasty fall!
