How to fit a front derailleur on a road bike?
If adjusting the derailleur requires a little more dexterity, fitting it is relatively straightforward. Here is how to do it:
- Time: 10 min

- Tools: Allen key set | Grease | Torque wrench
Steps
In most cases, your front derailleur comes with a plastic spacer placed in the mechanism to hold it in position for adjustment, so be careful not to remove it for now.
- Lightly grease the screw(s) of the derailleur.
- In the case of a "braze-on" system, begin screwing the derailleur bolt onto the bike. For a clamp-on system, pass the clamp around the frame and then begin tightening the clamp bolt.
Probikeshop tip: for now, there is no need to fully tighten the derailleur bolts as they will need to be adjusted later.
The derailleur is now in place; all that remains is to fit your levers to adjust your derailleur.
