The Rim DT Swiss XM 481 in 27.5 inches is the essential high-end bare aluminium rim for All-Mountain and aggressive Trail riding. Highly regarded by artisan wheel builders, it is designed for riders seeking the tolerance and robustness of aluminium, combined with the handling and natural agility of the 27.5" format.
Its construction is based on an exclusive ultra-resistant aluminium alloy, assembled with a high-precision welded joint (SBWT). Its 30 mm internal width offers the perfect modern geometry to seat large Trail and light Enduro tyres. The tyre does not squash or blur in corners, allowing you to run low pressure to maximise the contact patch, lateral grip and traction on roots and wet rocks.
What does the PHR system offer over traditional eyelets? The PHR system acts as a ball joint between the spoke nipple and the rim. During assembly, the nipple aligns perfectly along the spoke axis, reducing torsional and shear stress. Combined with the reinforcing washer that widens the contact area, this creates an extremely strong wheel that stays true over time and drastically limits the risk of the rim cracking at the spoke holes.
What tyre sizes are ideal on the XM 481 in 27.5"? With its 30 mm internal width, this rim pairs ideally with tyres from 2.40 to 2.50. Thanks to the hooked rim technology (Hooked), it is compatible with the full range of tyres on the market (Tubeless Ready or classic tyres with an inner tube, although Tubeless mounting is strongly recommended to get the best performance).
What is the difference with the Enduro EX 511 in 27.5"? The XM 481 (All-Mountain) and the EX 511 (Enduro) share the same 30 mm width and the same welded finish. However, the Enduro version features reinforced sidewalls to withstand the extreme vertical impacts of DH/Enduro competitions. The XM 481 27.5" weighs approximately 45 g less on the scales, making the rear wheel more dynamic, more responsive to pedalling and more enjoyable on long climbs, while remaining extremely solid on descents.
