The MICROSHIFT ADVENT MX CS-XD11611-speed cassette is the lightest and most technically advanced 11-speed cassette in the microSHIFT lineup. Designed specifically for high-level mountain biking and gravel riding, it offers an impressive gear range of 11–50 teeth (454%) while maintaining a very competitive weight.
Its strength lies in its hybrid construction: the first 10 sprockets are made of steel to ensure smooth and durable shifting, while the 50-tooth sprocket is machined from aluminum. This technical choice drastically reduces the rotating mass at the rear of your bike, thereby improving responsiveness during accelerations and the bike’s overall agility.
What is the difference between this model and the CS-EG116 (Sword) version? Although they share the same technology (50T aluminum sprocket), the CS-XD116 is optimized for mountain biking (ADVENT X series), while the CS-EG116 is branded for the Sword series (Gravel). The gear ratios are identical, but the aesthetic finishes may vary slightly to match their respective groupsets.
Does the aluminum sprocket wear out faster? Aluminum is softer than steel. If you spend 100% of your time on the 50-tooth sprocket, it will wear out faster than an all-steel version (like the CS-H114). However, for normal use where the 50T serves as a “backup sprocket” for steep climbs, it’s the ideal compromise.
Why choose this version over the “all-steel” version? For responsiveness. On a rear wheel, a 150g difference is immediately noticeable during acceleration. If you’re looking for a dynamic and lively bike, the XD116 is the best choice.
